CLIENT OVERVIEW
HydroPoint Data Systems’ water use analysis services, powered by their smart irrigation products, help corporations and municipalities lower their water usage footprint while saving money in the process. Their client list includes Fortune 500 companies, hi-tech campuses, and big box retail giants. Their business models spans smart irrigation products, subscription services, and water use analysis for the last mile.
Design Challenge
Simply put, HydroPoint is good people working towards a great vision. I’ve racked up 20+ years of brand strategy and graphic design with this team, all aimed at saving our most precious resource … water.
Getting in on the ground floor of a start-up has its perks: I’ve been HydroPoint’s ‘go-to’ designer and brand oversight advisor for everything from graphics to interior design. The list is long, spanning identity design (corporate umbrella, subsidiary, and 20+ products), sales/marketing/events print collateral, forward-facing and back-end user websites, advertising, packaging and user manuals, product design, trade show signage, infographics and presentations, etc. I recently consulted as their interior designer, allowing me to revisit my architectural training and revision their corporate headquarters into a beautifully updated environment.

HydroPoint Identity
Early to the space of sustainable water use, HydroPoint’s logo needed to convey a tone of approachable authority and set them up as a trusted guide for new users of their technology. Bold letter forms and a direct color palette handily support the compass point-based mark. After 12 years of steady growth a brand evaluation was undertaken to ensure assets were all in compliance with brand guidelines and a fully scalable identity language was in place.

HydroPoint’s website incorporates three distinct properties, each with its own unique products and serving its own market. A complicated hierarchy of products, they are all connected under the HydroPoint umbrella.
In addition to acting as lead visual designer for the forward-facing site I’ve contributed to the overall design and icon development of the backend user interface.
